Extra! Extra!

6 May

We are only five sleeps away from Friday May 11 and Friends With Benefits at the Elmdale Tavern.

I’m happy to report that tickets are selling fast and furious: there are only 18 advanced tickets left online, and about 20 or so tickets left kicking around in some volunteer’s hands.   If you’re on the fence – get your ticket now to avoid disappointment.  If can’t make it but want to support the cause, you can visit the Eventbrite site to make a donation.

Our success in raising awareness about the event is due in part to the great support we have had from the local media.  I wanted to share with you some of the coverage we’ve received over the past few weeks.  We’re hoping that as the event gets closer we’ll have more chances to spread the word (ahem, Robyn Bresnahan anyone?).

Be Healthy Be Beautiful Ottawa ran this lovely piece on the event:

Sarah, the founder and editor, has been a great help in securing media support with us through her connections in the Ottawa community.  Thanks Sarah!

Kim Sullivan, DJ on Boom 99.7 runs a feature on her blog called “Kim Kares” in which highlights community fundraising events.  A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to speak with her about Friends With Benefits and talk to her a little bit more about Jennie James and the Royal’s fund in her name.  You can listen to the interview here:

Couch Assassin, Ottawa’s comprehensive events calendar, has written a great feature on Friends With Benefits that you can see here:

Coming up this week Francine Charbonneau will be featured on Rogers’ Daytime with Derick Fage and Lois Lee in an interview about the Fund and to chat more about the event.  I wish I could be there with Francine, but alas I am starting the first day of my new gig in Toronto.  Wish us both luck!

Speaking of luck (see how I did that?) we’ve had some new supporters come on board this week who have donated more items for the silent auction.  Ottawa Sport and Social Club has donated individual registrations to its Sprummer or Fall leagues; Benefit Cosmetics has donated a gift basket and Hotel Chez Swann boutique hotel in Montreal has donated a weekend stay for four – shopping anyone?

See you in five sleeps for the silent auction and sweaty dance party.  Until then, please keep spreading the word and saving your pennies to bid on some wares and support this important cause.
